Easy Halloween Bark
I was looking for a cute easy Halloween bark to do with my boy because we love bark, it’s so easy to make since it doesn’t have to be perfect, it’s a great treat to make with kids, since they LOVE helping and creating. There are hundreds of things you could do with unlimited candy, nuts, crackers, treat options! Of course Pinterest came to the rescue with SarahMakesStuff.com and her awesome candy bar bark.
Here is what you need for this basic bark:
- Any chocolate that you know will melt good, (or candy melts )two or more kinds
- Candy eyes
- Sprinkles
- Mini candy bars
Then seriously whatever you have for the toppings, it will still be so good!
We didn’t have any candy melts so we just made some colored chocolate. White chocolate can be so tricky to work with if you add anything to it, so I usually use coconut oil for adding food coloring just to be safe. Plus coconut oil will help the chocolate harden into shape.
Mix food coloring gel into a little coconut oil first then add a little bit of the white chocolate. I put them in these containers and save them for later with no cleanup. Win win.
Now just dip some cute mini candy bars in them and add eyes. Lay them on parchment to come off easily. Once that is dry/cool put in the details such as hair, mouths, etc.
The bark is the easy part! Melt semi, milk or white chocolate in a double broiler. (Bowl over a pot of hot water) I like a little crunch so I always put rice crispies on the tray and then pour on the melted chocolate.
So easy to just slightly mix in the two chocolates, I use a wooden skewer. I also added the purple and green chocolate.
Then you start adding everything on while it’s warm. Kids love this part. We added GF cookies, orange sprinkles, crushed butterfingers, random eyes, and our creepy creatures.
We always put it in the freezer to speed it up but you can put it in the fridge to cool.
Cut them up and you’re done! Fun right?!
If you make some, tell me what you use!
